Engineering & Environmental Geophysics

  What We Do

Working cooperatively with engineers, municipalities, industries and environmental consultants, Aquifer Science & Technology (AST) provides professional hydrogeologic and geophysical services in support of on-going ground water or engineering projects. AST is “Your Ground Water Resource”.
Because ground water development and geophysics are our only focus, our staff can offer the insight and expertise that comes from over 20 years of immersion in the field.

We have worked in a wide variety of geologic environments on a broad spectrum of water supply and geophysical projects. We have the flexibility to work as part of a team to get a project done right while maintaining and building existing client relationships.

AST specializes in siting high capacity water wells, and providing technical services to develop and manage ground water resources. Our areas of expertise include well siting investigations, aquifer testing, ground water modeling, and engineering and environmental geophysics.

Our personnel have sited over 100 high-capacity wells in many different aquifers around the United States. AST has the expertise and creativity to site your well efficiently and effectively. We will help you find more water and avoid future problems, all for a fraction of the cost of drilling additional wells.

Additionally, AST offers a broad range of shallow geophysical exploration techniques to assist you in your engineering and environmental remote sensing and subsurface detection needs. The combination of our professional experience applied to your site-specific problems and the use of state-of-the-art geophysical techniques and equipment provide you with the best solution possible for your engineering and environmental geophysical needs.

  Who We Are

John Jansen, P.G., RGP, Ph.D.

Dr. Jansen is the Senior Geoscientist and technical lead for AST.  He has 20 years of experience in ground water resources and geophysics.  He holds degrees in geology, geophysics and hydrogeology.  He has sited well over 100 high capacity wells in North America and conducted a wide variety of water quality, well rehabilitation, ground water modeling, and engineering geophysics projects.  He was formerly the chief geoscientist for a large international water well company.

Ted L. Powell, P.G.

Mr. Powell has twelve years of experience as a hydrogeologist in the environmental and water supply industry and as a geologist in the petroleum industry. He currently manages water supply and wellhead protection projects that range from well siting issues to aquifer vulnerability studies. He has extensive task management of remedial investigation and remedial design programs, and has conducted numerous soil and groundwater investigations. Mr. Powell has also managed numerous engineering pre-design pilot studies and aquifer tests, where his responsibilities included project coordination, contracting and scheduling, subcontractor oversight, data collection, data reduction and analysis, and report preparation.
